
Flames Conclude Elon Invitational With 6 Wins

The Liberty men’s tennis squad finished up its time at the Elon Invitational with six total victories over the course of the three-day tournament at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
On Sunday, the Flames did end up competing in doubles. In singles, Rafael Marques Da Silva withdrew from his Maroon singles draw title match versus Charlotte’s Mikhail Sokolovskiy. Liberty’s Omar El Kadi fell in his consolation final match.
Key Stats & Notes
• Liberty’s six victories this weekend included five singles wins and a doubles triumph. Marques Da Silva claimed three singles matches, while El Kadi won the other two. Marques Da Silva and El Kadi were the only two Flames competing in the event.
• El Kadi squared off with Richmond’s Campbell Erwin in the consolation final of the Phoenix singles draw. Erwin claimed the first set 6-4 before El Kadi was forced to retire.
• Liberty withdrew from its third place match doubles match on Sunday.
• This was Liberty’s first appearance at the Elon Fall Invitational since the fall 2016 campaign.

Liberty will be back in action at the ITA All-American Championships, Oct. 2-10 in Tulsa, Okla. Prequalifying will take place on Saturday and Sunday, followed by qualifying Oct. 4-5. Main draw matches will take place from Oct. 6-10.
The event will be held at Tulsa’s Michael D. Case Tennis Center and at the Case Tennis Center at LaFortune Park.
