Liberty senior left-hander Trevor Delaite has been selected to the 2021 ABCA/Rawlings All-American team. Announced earlier this morning, the teams are voted on by the members of the American Baseball Coaches Association.
The left-hander appears on the association's third team. Earlier this week, the ACBA selected Delaite to its 2021 Atlantic-ABCA/Rawlings All-Region first team.
Delaite, one of six finalists for the National Pitcher of the Year, earns his second All-American team honor. The Bangor, Maine native was also named to the 2021 Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division I All-America baseball team. He selected the 2021 ASUN Pitcher of the Year and the ASUN All-Conference first team by the conference's coaches.
Delaite finished the year with the most wins in a season in Liberty program history by posting a 12-1 record with a 2.17 ERA over 16 starts. In 107 2/3 innings, the Bangor, Maine native struck out 88 and walked 20. In addition, the senior had a 1.08 WHIP and held opponents to a .215 batting average. He threw five complete games and posted three shutouts.
Delaite led the ASUN Conference in wins, innings pitched, complete games and shutouts. The left-hander is the first Liberty pitcher since Keegan Linza, who pitched five complete games in 2011, to throw five or more complete games in a season.
The senior posted a 7-0 record with a 1.65 ERA over 54 2/3 innings over his final seven outings of the season, helping the Flames post a 41-16 record and secure an at-large selection to the NCAA Knoxville, Tenn. Regional. Liberty won 40 or more games for the seventh time in school history and the second time under five-year head coach Scott Jackson. The left-hander pitched three complete games during the span.
