The Liberty women's tennis team will wrap up regular season play with home matches against Bellarmine and Virginia Tech.
Liberty (16-5, 5-0 ASUN) will host Bellarmine (0-15, 0-5 ASUN) in its ASUN regular season finale, Saturday morning at the Liberty Tennis Complex. Saturday is Senior Day for the Lady Flames tennis program. Prior to the 10 a.m. match, Liberty will honor its two seniors – Grace Hashiguchi and Kelly Lewis – with a special ceremony.
The Lady Flames' final regular season match will be against the Virginia Tech Hokies (5-14), next Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m.
Liberty saw its unbeaten home record halted with a 7-0 loss to VCU on Wednesday. The Lady Flames lead the ASUN North Division with a 5-0 record and have clinched the No. 1 seed for the ASUN North Division's quarterfinal round of the 2021 ASUN Women's Tennis Championship, which will be held on April 17.
Bellarmine is still in search of its first conference victory of the season. The Knights lost to Lipscomb 7-0, last Saturday in their most recent contest. Virginia Tech fell 6-1 to No. 6 Florida State, last Sunday.
Lady Flames News and Notes
• Liberty and Bellarmine played against each other on March 28 in Louisville, Ky. The Lady Flames bested the Knights 6-1 on that day in what was the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
• Liberty is 0-6 all-time against Virginia Tech. The Lady Flames and Hokies last squared off on Feb. 17, 2018 in Blacksburg, Va., a 5-2 victory for Virginia Tech.
• The Lady Flames are 8-1 on their home courts in 2021.
• With 16 victories, Liberty is three victories shy of matching the program record for wins in a season with two regular season matches and postseason play still remaining. The 2015 squad holds the school record for wins with 19.
• Hashiguchi and the Lady Flames have won 56 matches over the last four seasons. Since joining Liberty prior to the start of the 2019-20 season, Lewis and the Lady Flames are a combined 23-10.
