
Darius McGhee Named to the Lou Henson All-America Team

Liberty's Darius McGhee has been named to the 2021 Lou Henson All-America Team and a finalist for the Lou Henson award, which annually recognizes the top mid-major player in Division I college basketball. McGhee is the only player from the ASUN Conference to be named to the All-America team.
The postseason awards continue to file in for McGhee, as the junior becomes the third Liberty player to be named to the Lou Henson All-America Team, joining Caleb Homesley and Scottie James who both were named All-America selections in 2020. This is the first time in Liberty's program history that a Liberty player has been named to the team in back-to-back seasons. The junior was exceptional all season earning ASUN Player of the Year honors and was an NABC District 3 First Team selection. McGhee became just the third player in school history to earn Player of the Year honors, joining Caleb Homesley who was ASUN Player of the Year in 2020 and Jesse Sanders, who was named Big South Player of the Year in 2011. McGhee was sensational this season averaging 15.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. Lethal at all three levels, McGhee shot 45.8 percent from the field, 41.3 percent from three-point range and 84.8 percent from the free throw line. During conference play the junior picked up his game averaging 16.9 points per game including 4.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists while shooting 47 percent from the field, 42.3 percent from three-point range and 87 percent from the free throw line. The junior from Roxboro, N.C. ended the regular season with four straight games scoring 20 points or more, becoming the first Liberty player since 2009 to do so.
The Lou Henson award honors the former Illinois and New Mexico State head coach who won 775 games in 41 seasons. The recipient of the Lou Henson award will be announced on April 1. The following conference are eligible for the award: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast.
