Griffin's 10.19 Takes Down Long-Standing Men's 100 Dash Program Record

Liberty's Diamantae Griffin stole the show on Friday at the 93rd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. His 10.19 clocking in the men's 100 dash prelims at Mike A. Myers Stadium took down a program record that had stood for 27 years.
Prior to Friday, Jacob Swinton's IC4A-winning 100 time of 10.20 had stood as the Flames' record since May 21, 1994, more than four years before Griffin was born. Aided by a gusty (+4.1 m/s) tailwind, Griffin shattered his previous personal best of 10.42.
Unfortunately for the Jackson, Miss., native, the wind was too strong for the mark to qualify him for the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round meet. Griffin posted the fastest time among the non-qualifiers to Saturday's Texas Relays 100 dash final. However, he had already punched his ticket to the men's 200 final with his performance during Thursday's prelims and will focus on that event Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Flames' 4 x 100 relay quartet of Abby Pantlitz, Ty'Asia Dansbury, Alexis Rolan and Nikayla Hoyte was successful in qualifying to Saturday's final with their preliminary time of 46.60.
Pantlitz (11.96) and Hoyte (11.98) went on to record personal-best times in the women's 100 dash prelims. Pantlitz's clocking ties the freshman for 10th place all-time for the Lady Flames.
The Flames' hurdlers also benefited from the friendly tailwinds in Austin. Juan Pablo Germain Ronco climbed to No. 4 on Liberty's all-time men's 110 hurdles list with his 14.28 effort. Competing in the 110 hurdles for the first time in three years, program record holder Jovaine Atkinson finished right behind Germain Ronco in 14.31.
Naomi Mojica posted the best finish by a Liberty field event on Friday, taking third in Section B of the women's shot put with a season-best 50-8 put.
One day after setting the ASUN women's hammer record, Chelsea Igberaese notched season bests in both of her events on Friday. Her 167-11 discus throw was good for eighth place in Section A, while her 45-5.25 shot put took 10th place in Section B of that event.
Competing in his home state, freshman Gabriel Willis cleared a season-best 6-7.5 for eighth place in Section B of the men's high jump.
