Liberty will head to South Carolina for a pair of matches against Charleston Southern and College of Charleston over the weekend.
The Lady Flames (8-2) will first take on former Big South Conference rival Charleston Southern (3-3, 1-0 Big South), Friday at 2 p.m. at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex. On Saturday morning (10 a.m.), Liberty and College of Charleston (3-6) will square off at the College of Charleston Tennis Center at Patriots Point.
Liberty brings a two-match winning streak into the weekend, with recent victories versus William & Mary (5-2 last Saturday) and at Richmond (4-3 on Feb. 24). Charleston Southern earned two 4-3 victories, last weekend at home against Gardner-Webb (Saturday) and Stetson (Sunday). College of Charleston's most recent watch was a 4-3 home setback to Gardner-Webb, last Sunday.
The Lady Flames and CSU Buccaneers have faced each other 22 times, with the most recent match coming on March 24, 2018, in what was Liberty's final season in the Big South. Liberty bested CSU 6-1 in that match.
The Lady Flames and College of Charleston Cougars have split two previous meetings, with the last bout coming nearly five years ago (April 3, 2016). Liberty claimed that match by a 4-2 score in Charleston, S.C.
Lady Flames News and Notes
• Liberty is 2-2 on the road in 2021. Its two victories came at Georgia State (Jan. 23) and Richmond (Feb. 24). The Lady Flames' two road setbacks came at FGCU (Feb. 19) and South Florida (Feb. 21).
• Second-year player Esther Lovato is a perfect 9-0 at No. 4 singles in 2021. Marina Davtyan sports a 9-1 singles mark, while Tiffany Nguyen and Micaela Ode Mitre are both 7-3.
• Liberty is 8-0 this season when winning the doubles point and 0-2 when dropping the doubles session. Lady Flames doubles units are 23-6 (.793) on the season, with Ode Mitre and Nguyen leading the way at 8-1.
• Liberty's last match against a school from the Palmetto State was on Feb. 22, 2020 at home versus No. 39 Furman.
• The Lady Flames are only eight days away from the start of ASUN Conference play. They will play North Alabama (March 19) and Lipscomb (March 21) on the road, next weekend.
