Liberty's Nicaise Muamba has been named the ASUN Men's Tennis Player of the Week for a second time this season.
Muamba's award is the sixth ASUN Player of the Week honor of his career. Liberty has received four of the first five player of the week awards in 2021.
"We appreciate Nicaise's passion and leadership. He brings a phenomenal mentality to each practice and match," stated Liberty Men's Tennis Head Coach Derek Schwandt.
Muamba won in both doubles and singles in the Flames' 5-2 win over William & Mary, Monday at the brand-new Liberty Indoor Tennis Center. In doubles, he teamed up Rafael Marques Da Silva to clinch the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Finbar Talcott and Daniel Pellerito of the Tribe. The duo trailed 3-1 and 4-3 in the match before mounting the comeback.
In singles, Muamba topped Lev Hazakov 6-1, 6-2 on court one to give Liberty a 3-0 edge in an eventual 5-2 triumph. Muamba is 5-2 at No. 1 singles in 2021 and is two wins away from 50 career singles victories at Liberty with 48 wins.
Liberty leads all ASUN schools with 14 ASUN Player of the Week accolades since joining the conference prior to the start of the 2019 season.
Muamba and the Flames (5-3) will play a pair of road matches this weekend at Old Dominion (2-5) on Friday and at William & Mary (1-2) on Sunday. Both matches will start at 1 p.m.
