Saturday's Top Storylines
- Coming off back-to-back losses to nationally-ranked opponents, Liberty (7-4) will close out its 2021 regular season by hosting fellow FBS independent squad Army (7-3) at Williams Stadium for the first time.
- Liberty, which has won its last three meetings with FBS independent teams, is seeking its first-ever victory over Army. The Black Knights posted a 38-14 home win over Liberty on Sept. 8, 2018 in the only previous head-to-head matchup.
- Despite having its program-record 15-game home winning streak snapped by Louisiana last week, Liberty is 20-3 at Williams Stadium as an FBS program, including 15-2 under Hugh Freeze.
- Liberty will honor 25 seniors during a pregame ceremony. The Flames have won four consecutive Senior Day contests and are 13-2 in their last 15 Senior Day tilts.
- In his third season as Liberty's head coach, Hugh Freeze has posted a 25-10 record, including a 19-5 mark over the last 24 games.
- Liberty QB Malik Willis has accounted for 33 TDs (23 passing/10 rushing). He, Matt Corral (Ole Miss) and Malik Cunningham (Louisville) are the only three FBS QBs ranked among the top 50 nationally for both passing TDs and rushing TDs this season.
A Liberty Win Would ...
- Mark the Flames' first victory over Army, making the Black Knights the fifth opponent Liberty has defeated for the first time in 2021 (also Campbell, UAB, Middle Tennessee and North Texas).
- Be the Flames' fourth straight victory when facing a fellow FBS independent squad.
- Give the Flames their fourth consecutive season with five or more home wins.
- Give the Flames their 13th season in program history with eight or more wins, including their third in a row.
- Represent the Flames' fifth consecutive triumph on Senior Day.
- Enable the Flames to avoid suffering their first three-game losing streak since Nov. 3-17, 2018 (UMass, Virginia and Auburn) and their first back-to-back home losses since Sept. 30 & Oct. 14, 2017 (Saint Francis (Pa.) and Kennesaw State).
