Saturday's Top Storylines
- Following a bye week, Liberty (7-3) returns home for a battle against No. 21/22 Louisiana (9-1, 7-0 Sun Belt), the second FBS Top 25 opponent ever to visit Williams Stadium.
- After falling 27-14 at No. 15/15 Ole Miss on Nov. 6, Liberty is facing back-to-back FBS Top 25 foes for the first time in program history. The Flames' lone previous FBS Top 25 win came at the expense of a Sun Belt opponent, No. 9/11 Coastal Carolina in the 2020 Cure Bowl on Dec. 26, 2020.
- Liberty is 7-2 all-time against Sun Belt opponents, including 2-0 at Williams Stadium and 1-1 this season.
- The Flames have won a program-record 15 straight home games at Williams Stadium, ranking No. 4 nationally among active streaks. Liberty, which has scored at least 40 points in each of its last eight home tilts, is in search of its first-ever home win over an FBS Top 25 foe.
- In his third season as Liberty's head coach, Freeze has posted a 25-9 record, including a 19-4 mark over the last 23 games. Freeze has coached two teams to victories over Louisiana, including Arkansas State (2011) and Ole Miss (2014, vacated).
- Liberty QB Malik Willis has accounted for 31 TDs (21 passing/10 rushing) and leads FBS QBs with 755 rushing yards this season. He and Matt Corral (Ole Miss) are the only two FBS QBs ranked among the top 40 nationally for both passing TDs and rushing TDs.
A Liberty Win Would ...
- Extend the Flames' program-record home winning streak to 16 games.
- Be the Flames' second win over an FBS Top 25 opponent in program history and first at Williams Stadium.
- Boost the Flames' record against Sun Belt foes to 8-2.
- Give the Flames their 13th season in program history with eight or more wins, including their third in a row.
- Enable the Flames to avoid their first back-to-back losses since Nov. 9 and 23, 2019, when Liberty dropped games at BYU and Virginia.
- Make the Flames the third different team Hugh Freeze has coached to a win over Louisiana. He previously defeated the Ragin' Cajuns while coaching at Arkansas State (2011) and Ole Miss (2014, later vacated).
- Snap Louisiana's nine-game winning streak and hand the Ragin' Cajuns their first loss since Sept. 4 at Texas.
