
Liberty Wins 3 Matches on Second Day of Elon Invite, Saturday

Day two of the Elon Invite saw the Liberty Lady Flames tennis team win three matches, highlighted by a 2-0 doubles session on Saturday.
Liberty’s doubles pairing of Elsa Kirch and Willa Rogers picked their second victory of the weekend, defeating William & Mary’s Kensie Cricchio and Alisia Manolescu in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (2).
The Lady Flames finished with four singles wins and three doubles victories in two days of competition at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
Key Stats & Notes
• The Lady Flames’ Alexandra Almborg and Maretha Burger collected their first doubles triumph at the event. The duo bested NC Central’s Kennedy Hill and Hannah Gaines 8-2.
• Burger picked up the lone singles win of the day for the Lady Flames. The Ashton, South Africa native defeated Sarah Allen of Elon in two sets (6-2, 6-3). The victory was her seventh of the fall, the second most among Liberty players behind only Maria Juliana Parra Romero (10-2).
• Rogers was the closest of Liberty’s four players to reaching a final in her draw. The Lady Flames freshman fell to William & Mary’s Emma Fernald in three sets, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2, in the semifinals of the Powell draw.
• Liberty finished the tournament with a 3-3 doubles mark and 4-7 singles record.
• This was Liberty’s sixth of seven events during the fall 2021 season.

Liberty will close out the fall season at the North Texas Invite, next Friday through Sunday. The three-day event will be held at the Waranch Tennis Complex in Denton, Texas.
