The Flames men's tennis team will return home for a match against the Old Dominion Monarchs, Sunday afternoon.
First serve between Liberty and Old Dominion is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at Crosswhite Athletic Club in Lynchburg.
Liberty enters the match with a 1-3 record. The Flames have faced a very challenging schedule so far, which has included a pair of top-25 teams, No. 6 Texas and No. 22 Virginia, as well as Arizona (among others receiving votes). Liberty won its only home match so far in 2021, topping Elon 5-2 on Jan. 18.
Old Dominion is currently 0-2, with setbacks to Auburn and Clemson. The Monarchs will square off with No. 8 Virginia on Saturday before taking on the Flames the next day. Liberty is in search of its first win over ODU in men's tennis. The Monarchs hold a 10-0 edge in the all-time series. The Flames fell 6-1 to Old Dominion in the most recent meeting on Feb. 14, 2020.
Attendance
Liberty's indoor matches at Crosswhite Athletic Club will be closed to the public, this spring. Attendance will be limited to teams, officials, athletic training staffs and personnel essential to hosting the event. Flames News and Notes
• Liberty's Nicaise Muamba earned ASUN Player of the Week honors from the conference office on Wednesday afternoon. It was Muamba's fifth career conference player of the week accolade. The Flames have now received both ASUN Player of the Week honors handed out in 2021, with Rafael Marques Da Silva having earned the other one a week ago.
• Muamba topped Texas's No. 57 Siem Woldeab in straight sets (6-4, 6-0) last Friday, his second career ranked win. The Liberty junior paces the squad with a 2-1 singles mark this season.
• Liberty is 16-3 on its home courts in head coach Derek Schwandt's tenure.
• The Flames have been picked to finish second in the ASUN Conference behind only defending champion FGCU in the preseason coaches poll. Liberty's first ASUN match will take place on March 19 at North Alabama
• The Flames will have another opportunity to go up against nationally-ranked competition. ODU sports the 25th-ranked doubles duo in the country in Luca Maldoner and Nicola Vidal.
