The 2019-20 NJCAA Division II women's basketball leading scorer (27.0 ppg), McHenry County College combo guard Alyssa Iverson, has signed a national letter of intent to attend Liberty University for the 2020-21 academic year.
Iverson will have two seasons of eligibility remaining when she enrolls at Liberty this fall.
Alyssa Iverson (G, 5-7, Elgin, Ill.)
Iverson averaged a nation-leading 27.0 ppg to go along with 4.2 apg and 3.0 spg this past season, earning NJCAA first team All-America recognition. She knocked down 79 three-pointers at a 36.6 percent clip and recorded 12 30-point games with a season high of 44.
Iverson spent her freshman season (2018-19) at Northern Iowa. She averaged 1.8 ppg in limited playing time for the Panthers.
Iverson enjoyed a successful high school career at Harvest Christian Academy, helping her team win 105 games in four years and finish fourth in the Illinois 1A state tournament as a junior. She scored a school-record 1,901 points and was a two-time first team all-state performer.
What They're Saying about Alyssa Iverson
"We are certainly excited to have Alyssa choose Liberty to complete her collegiate career. She is one of the rare players who makes everyone else better. Her high basketball IQ and skill sets complement her teammates, and yet she possesses a serious scoring punch from anywhere on the court. She does an excellent job spacing on the court without the ball to obtain great open shots and finishes well at the free throw line. Alyssa exemplifies the characteristics of our program and her experiences and strength at the combo guard position are valued and welcomed into our Liberty family."
Carey Green, Liberty Women's Basketball Head Coach
"I was blessed to be Alyssa's coach this year. She came to us in search of getting back to her true self as a player and individual. She trusted us, believed in our system and worked to be one of the best JUCO point guards in the nation this year. She led the nation in scoring and our team to a conference championship and another 20-win season. We are so very proud of her and happy we were able to be a part of her very bright future. She is ready to fly!"
Karen Wiley, McHenry County College Women's Basketball Head Coach
"Alyssa's journey has been a humble one. She has felt the sting of setbacks but never doubted her abilities. She is an example for all student-athletes to never give up on their dreams. Recently, Alyssa became an All-American and is now signing with Liberty University. It is a dream come true. Liberty's staff and campus have exceeded her expectations of Division I basketball. The road to success is never a straight line. She has learned to fear nothing and be a coach on the court. It takes a special student-athlete to get to this level. I cannot wait to watch her on the court at LU!"
Rich DeTamble, McHenry County College Women's Basketball Assistant Coach (also served as head coach at Harvest Christian Academy during Iverson's time on the team)
