The Liberty Lady Flames tennis team has announced the addition of South African Maretha Burger for the 2021-22 academic year.
"Maretha possesses the qualities that I really like in a tennis player – mental toughness and problem-solving skills," stated Liberty Women's Tennis Head Coach Jeff Maren. "Her athleticism and rich history of success in South Africa and on the ITF Tour has helped add to her confidence and passion for the game. I have no doubt that she will fit perfectly into our culture and will help us to elevate our program to new heights."
Burger hails from Ashton, South Africa and has reached as high as No. 3 in the South Africa women's rankings and No. 312 in the ITF World Tennis Tour Junior Rankings. She has compiled an 80-20 junior tournament record over the past two years. Burger has also reached No. 1 rankings in U18 girls combined, U18 girls doubles and open mixed doubles in South Africa.
"I'm so thankful for this opportunity and am excited to be a part of the Liberty family! I can't wait to join my new teammates in the quest to win championships," Burger stated.
