The Starting 5 - Liberty's Top Storylines
• Liberty (2-3, 0-0 ASUN) will look to remain unbeaten at Liberty Arena on Sunday, playing host to first-time opponent Carson-Newman (2-0, 2-0 SAC).
• Sunday will mark Liberty's first-ever regular-season matchup with a South Atlantic Conference (SAC) member. Meanwhile, Carson-Newman is classifying the contest as an exhibition.
• The Lady Flames are 2-0 at the brand-new Liberty Arena, defeating in-state foes Norfolk State and Hampton by an average of 22.5 ppg. Liberty is averaging 24.5 assists per game at its new home.
• Emily Lytle paces Liberty's balanced scoring attack with 15.6 ppg. She is 13-of-13 at the free throw line this season and has hit 25 straight foul shots dating back to 2019-20. The Liberty record is 26 in a row, set by Jaymee Fisher-Davis between 2013-15.
• Sophomore Kennedi Williams has been the Lady Flames' primary facilitator at Liberty Arena. She has recorded a career-high eight assists in each of Liberty's two home games. Williams is the first Lady Flame since Sarah Wilkerson in 1998 with back-to-back home games of eight or more assists.
Notes and Anecdotes - Liberty vs. Carson-Newman
• Liberty will put its undefeated record at Liberty Arena on the line against unbeaten Carson-Newman. The Lady Eagles are the third of four first-time opponents on Liberty's 2020-21 schedule, along with Ohio, Memphis and Bellarmine.
• Carson-Newman will be tipping off Sunday's game at Liberty Arena just 24 hours after hosting Limestone for a South Atlantic Conference (SAC) clash at Holt Fieldhouse, approximately 280 miles away from Lynchburg. Liberty will play ASUN games on back-to-back days this season, but both contests will take place in the same facility.
• Hopes are high for both teams this season. Liberty was picked to finish second in the ASUN Conference, while Carson-Newman is the SAC preseason favorite.
• Both schools saw 20-win seasons ended prematurely in 2019-20. Liberty's ASUN Championship title game matchup with FGCU was scrapped, as was Carson-Newman's NCAA Division II Tournament opener against Anderson.
• All 12 Carson-Newman players hail from Tennessee. Conversely, the Lady Flames' roster features players from 10 different states and two foreign countries.
• A native of Louisville, Tenn., Liberty Head Coach Carey Green grew up just over 40 miles away from Carson-Newman's campus in Jefferson City, Tenn.
Liberty vs. South Atlantic Conference
• Liberty is 5-4 all-time against teams which currently play in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC), including 0-1 vs. Lenoir-Rhyne, 1-0 vs. Limestone and 4-3 vs. UVA Wise.
• Sunday will mark the first time Liberty has played a regular-season game against a SAC opponent who was part of the conference at the time of the meeting.
• Liberty Coordinator of Digital Services Jazmine Charles was the 2014 SAC Player of the Year for Lenoir-Rhyne. During her time playing for the Bears (2011-15), her teams posted a 7-3 record against Carson-Newman. Charles also served as an assistant coach at Catawba in 2016-17. That season, the Indians lost both matchups with Carson-Newman.
