Saturday's Top Storylines
1. Coming off its first win of the Hugh Freeze era, Liberty (1-2) will continue its three-game homestand Saturday with a visit from new Big South member Hampton (2-1).
2. Liberty has faced Hampton more often than any other opponent on its 2019 schedule, going 4-2 all-time versus the Pirates. However, the two teams have not squared off since Hampton recorded a 21-0 home shutout of the Flames on Oct. 10, 1998.
3. The Flames, who won eight Big South titles in 16 years as a member, are facing their first Big South opponent since leaving the league at the end of the 2017 season. Liberty is 55-23 all-time versus Big South foes, including 33-8 in Lynchburg.
4. Liberty senior QB Stephen Calvert appears on the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Preseason Watch List. He recorded his program-record 13th 300-yard game versus Buffalo, going over 9,000 passing yards for his career.
5. Senior WR Antonio Gandy-Golden, a Biletnikoff Award Watch List member, has been Calvert's most frequent target throughout his career. He ranks fifth nationally with 363 receiving yards this season, following a 174-yard, two-TD showing last weekend against Buffalo.
6. Redshirt senior DL Jessie Lemonier's three sacks versus Buffalo vaulted him into a tie for fifth nationally with 1.5 sacks per game this season. He has recorded 14.5 sacks in 15 career appearances as a Flame.
A Liberty Win Would ...
• Give the Flames a 5-2 all-time record versus Hampton with their first victory over the Pirates since Nov. 2, 1996.
• Boost the Flames' all-time record versus Big South opponents to 56-23, including 34-8 at Williams Stadium.
• Improve the Flames' all-time record against in-state opponents to 42-37.
• Give the Flames a 3-0 record versus FCS opponents since moving up to the FBS level in 2018.
• Even the Flames' season record at 2-2, matching Hugh Freeze's mark through his first four games as head coach at both Lambuth (2008) and Arkansas State (2011). Freeze was 3-1 in his first four games at Ole Miss in 2012, but the three victories have since been vacated.
• Hand Hampton its first road loss since Sept. 22, 2018 at Northern Iowa. The Pirates have won their last four games played away from Armstrong Stadium.
