Flames' Muamba Begins Year at No. 65 in National Singles Rankings

Liberty Flames men's tennis junior Nicaise Muamba will begin the year as the 65th-ranked singles player in the country. On Tuesday, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its 2019-20 Oracle/ITA Division I preseason national rankings.
"Nicaise lives out our team's core values consistently," said Flames head coach Derek Schwandt. "He is an extremely hard worker and great teammate. We are excited for his fall and the team season."
Muamba's ranking is the best of any player in school history. The previous best was Sam Matheson's No. 93 ranking on May 5, 2016.
Muamba, the 2019 ASUN Men's Tennis Player of the Year, was nationally ranked in singles seven times as a sophomore last spring, reaching a career-best No. 99 ranking on Feb. 20. The Laval, Quebec, Canada, native was the second player in program history to individually qualify for the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship. He also earned ASUN Player of the Week honors four times.
Muamba will see his first action of the fall 2019 season at South Carolina's Gamecock Ranked + 1 Fall Invitational. The tournament will run from Friday-Sunday at the Carolina Tennis Center in Columbia, S.C.
