Saturday's Top Storylines
1. Riding a three-game winning streak, Liberty (3-2) will visit fellow FBS independent New Mexico State (0-5) for the first leg of the teams' home-and-home series this season. The Aggies will visit Lynchburg for the Nov. 30 regular-season finale.
2. The Flames are seeking their first four-game winning streak since 2016 and their first 4-2 start to a season since 2010. Meanwhile, the Aggies are attempting to snap a seven-game losing skid and pick up their first win of 2019.
3. Liberty and New Mexico State also matched up twice in 2018 with the home team winning both contests. Last year's contest in Las Cruces (Oct. 6, 2018) turned into a shootout, with the two teams combining for 1,085 yards in a 49-41 Aggies triumph.
4. The Flames' loss in Las Cruces last season began a streak of five consecutive road setbacks. While Liberty is 8-2 at home over the last two seasons, the Flames are just 1-6 away from Lynchburg. The lone road victory came in the Land of Enchantment (52-43 at New Mexico on Sept. 29, 2018).
5. Liberty senior QB Stephen Calvert has recorded three straight 300-yard games. He needs 242 yards to reach the 10,000-yard milestone for his career.
6. Senior WR Antonio Gandy-Golden ranks No. 2 in the nation with 688 receiving yards this season and tops all active FBS receivers with 3,106 career receiving yards. He is 65 yards away from breaking the Liberty career record.
A Liberty Win Would ...
• Extend the Flames' winning streak to four games, their longest as an FBS member and their longest overall since a five-game streak spanning Oct. 1-Nov. 5, 2016.
• Snap the Flames' five-game road losing streak and improve their road record as an FBS member to 2-6.
• Give the Flames their first 4-2 start to a season since the 2010 squad also opened at 4-2. Hugh Freeze was also 4-2 through his first six games at both Lambuth (2008) and Arkansas State (2011).
• Improve the Flames' all-time record when playing more than 1,000 miles away from home to 4-7.
• Give the Flames their second straight victory when matching up with an FBS independent team after losing their first seven such meetings in program history.
• Extend New Mexico State's overall losing streak to eight straight games, dating back to last season.
