
Matheson Moves Up to No. 110 in ITA Singles Rankings

2017-18 Oracle/ITA Division I Men's Collegiate Tennis Rankings
Senior Sam Matheson of Liberty men's tennis has moved up four spots to No. 110 in the country in singles in the most recent 2017-18 Oracle/ITA Division I Men's Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
Matheson is among the top 125 players in the nation for a sixth time this season and the 13th time overall during his Liberty Flames career. The senior's ranking is four spots higher than when he was slotted at 114th in the country on April 24.
This spring, the native of Tauranga, New Zealand, won 13 singles bouts in the No. 1 slot in Liberty's lineup, including a pair of ranked wins over Carl Soderlund of Virginia (currently No. 24) and Henry Patten of UNC Asheville (currently No. 75).
Matheson first entered the national rankings at No. 106 on March 22, 2016 on the way to becoming the 2016 Big South Men's Tennis Player of the Year and the first Liberty men's tennis player to qualify for the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship. He has reached as high as No. 93 in the country (May 5, 2016).
Matheson was a three-time Big South Conference First Team All-Conference Singles selection in his three seasons with the Flames.
