
Wilson and Juri Highlight Flames' Day 1 Performance at Longhorn Invitational

Liberty freshmen Josh Wilson and Farid Juri both went unbeaten in singles on day one of the Longhorn Invitational at the Texas Tennis Center, Friday.
Overall, Liberty won four singles matches and one doubles bout on the first day of the tournament, which features nine ranked teams.
"Tough conditions reveal character, and strength comes through the struggle," said Flames head coach Derek Schwandt. "We are looking forward to responding tomorrow."
Wilson, entered in the Flight C Gold division, won his round of 16 match in straight sets (6-4, 6-3) against Marquette's Alvaro Verdu. In the quarterfinals, the Flames freshman defeated Tad Maclean of Auburn in three sets, 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-4). Wilson, who hails from Reigate, United Kingdom, will face Iowa's Joe Tyler in the semifinals, tomorrow afternoon.
Wilson and his doubles partner, senior Eddie Gutierrez, dominated their first doubles match in the Flight D Gold division. They defeated Louisville's pairing of David Mizrahi and Juan Paredes 8-2. Wilson and Gutierrez will match up against Tyler Junior College's Karl Mosterd and Luke Simkiss, Saturday morning.
Juri faced LSU's Ruy Teixeira in a backdraw match and prevailed, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8).
Liberty sophomore Nicaise Muamba split his two matches in the Flight B Gold draw. The native of Canada was victorious in his first match against Miami's Kaya Gore, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6). A quarterfinal match between Muamba and UCF's Mikhail Sokolovskiy went to Sokolovskiy, 6-3, 7-6 (5).
