Training Camp Position Previews: Quarterbacks

With Liberty's football training camp now under way, LibertyFlames.com continues its annual position preview segments today by looking at the Flames' quarterbacks.
Stephen Calvert emerged as Liberty's starting quarterback midway through the 2016 season, leading the Flames' offense for the final seven games of the season. Under his leadership, Calvert guided the team to five of their six victories in 2016.
The native of Plantation, Fla., finished his rookie season with 1,931 passing yards and 15 touchdowns, marking the third most passing yards by a freshman in program history.
After posting the lofty rookie numbers, Calvert, along with kicker Alex Probert, was named to the HERO Sports FCS Freshman All-America honorable mention team. Calvert also finished in 10th place in the final voting for the Walter Payton Award, given annually to the top FCS freshman in the country.
Looking to back up Calvert this year will be four players who have yet to play in a Division I college football game. Rudiger Yearick and David Jeremiah redshirted last year, while Mason Cunningham joined Liberty's roster during the spring after transferring from Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville, Miss. Landon Brown, a true freshman, will also be in the mix.
