As Liberty prepares to face its second FBS opponent of the season in SMU tonight, LFSN Game On revisits the Flames' first FBS contest of the year against Virginia Tech.
The Sept. 3 matchup against the Hokies was especially thrilling for Liberty junior offensive lineman Lucas Holder, a native of Hillsville, Va. The small Virginia town located about 60 minutes south of Blacksburg, Va., has two famous "sons" in Lucas Holder and legendary Virginia Tech Head Coach Frank Beamer.
Holder grew up watching Beamer lead the Hokies into battle at Lane Stadium and one day dreamt of taking the field at the stadium. However, the 6-4, 295-pound offensive lineman never imagined he would be wearing the red, white and blue of the Liberty Flames when he ran out on the field for the first time on Sept. 3.
Today's LFSN Game On feature tells the story of Holder ending up at Liberty and the joy he experienced helping the Flames open up their 2016 season against Virginia Tech.
