Following last Friday afternoon practice, Liberty's 11th of August Training Camp, LFSN reporter Alan York had a chance to talk with Liberty sophomore cornerback Chris Turner.
Turner earned All-Big South second team honors as a redshirt freshman, finishing the 2015 season with 24 tackles (20 solo, four assisted). He saw playing time in all 11 games, starting seven of the last eight contests of the year.
Turner made his mark in 2015 recording four interceptions, which individually ranked him No. 4 in the country. His interception total was the highest by a Liberty freshman since 1999 (Randall State also had four interceptions in 1999).
The native of Columbia, S.C., final interception of the season came during Liberty's upset win over No. 4 Coastal Carolina on a play that earned him the No. 1 play of the day on ESPN's SportsCenter Top 10 Plays listing.
On the practice field, the Flames will have two more morning workouts this week (Wednesday and Thursday) before shifting to evening practices to wrap up August Training Camp. Liberty will conclude its preseason workouts on Saturday when it hosts its annual Flames Fan Fest event (Scrimmage at 7 p.m.; Autograph session at 8 p.m.).
