With Liberty's spring football practice nearing completion, LFSN reporter Alan York recently had a chance to talk with junior running back Todd Macon about the team's spring workouts.
Macon's workload is scheduled to increase during the 2016 season following the graduation of Desmond Rice and D.J. Abnar. The two former running backs finished their careers at Liberty rushing for a combined 3,855 yards and 50 touchdowns.
Macon finished the 2015 season ranked second on the team, finishing behind Rice's 630 yards and ahead of Abnar's 268 yards. Macon carried the ball 73 times for 303 yards and had eight rushing touchdowns, last year.
In two seasons with the Flames, Macon has tallied 569 career rushing yards on 134 carries, averaging 4.2 yards per carry. The native of St. Petersburg, Fla., has excelled against teams at the next level, recording five of his 11 career rushing touchdowns against FBS opponents.
Macon and the Flames have three practices this week leading up to the team's Annual Spring Football Game. Liberty will practice on Tuesday (2:15 to 5 p.m.), Thursday (6:45 to 9:30 p.m.) and Friday (4:20 to 6:40 p.m.), while the annual Spring Football Game gets underway at 4 p.m. at Williams Stadium.
