As the calendar winds down to the final days of 2016, the Liberty Flames Sports Network is looking back at the moments that made this athletics year special for Flames Nation.
Liberty Athletics Top Moments of 2016 continues today by looking at Moment No. 2, Liberty capturing the 2015-16 Big South Sasser Cup trophy, its 12th in department history.
Liberty Athletics captured its 12th Big South Sasser Cup title during the 2015-16 athletics season, making Liberty Athletics the most successful program in Big South history with a dozen Sasser Cup titles. Liberty also captured the Big South Men's All-Sport and Women's All-Sport titles, marking the third time in Liberty's history the Flames have swept all three awards.
The 2016 calendar year was another banner year in Liberty Athletics. Liberty captured Big South titles in eight sports (football, men's golf, men's indoor track & field, men's outdoor track & field, women's cross country, women's indoor track & field, women's outdoor track & field and women's soccer).
The Flames also captured the 2015-16 Big South Sasser Cup title, the 12th in program history, establishing a new standard for most Sasser Cup titles in league history. Liberty also won the Men's All-Sport and Women's All-Sport trophies, marking the third sweep in Liberty Athletics history of the Big South's major awards.

No. 10 – Sam Matheson winning Big South Player of the Year honors/advancing to the NCAAs
No. 9 – Men's golf capturing the 2016 Big South Men's Golf Championship title
No. 8 – John Dawson hitting the game-winning shot to give men's basketball a win over High Point
No. 7 – Julia DiMartino throwing a no-hitter against Big South foe Gardner-Webb
No. 6 – Dexter Robbins blocked field goal attempt against Gardner-Webb to preserve an overtime win
No. 5 – Cross country and track & field claiming five of six Big South titles during the calendar year
No. 4 – Women's tennis capturing a share of the Big South regular season title
No. 3 – Women's soccer claiming the Big South title for the sixth time in program history
No. 2 – Liberty capturing the 2015-16 Big South Sasser Cup trophy
