Liberty senior wide receiver Darrin Peterson is one of 22 players who have been named to the 2015 STATS FCS Offensive Player of the Year award watch list.
The list includes players from each of the 13 FCS conferences and features nine returning conference offensive player of the year award winners. A dozen of the players were among the finalist for last year's Walter Payton Award, which was presented by the Sports Network.
Earlier this year, STATS LLC purchased the Sports Network and will continue to provide its national coverage of FCS football.
Peterson was one of two Big South representatives on the list, as he was joined by returning Big South Offensive Player of the Year Alex Ross of Coastal Carolina. The CAA and Missouri Valley led all conferences with three players each on the preseason watch list.
The STATS FCS Offensive Player of the Year Watch List can undergo revision during the 2015 season. A national panel of over 150 sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries will vote on the winner following the regular season.
Also this season, STATS will honor the outstanding defensive player in the FCS, a freshman player of the year and a coach of the year with season-ending awards.
This is the second honor Peterson has received from STATS, recently. Last week, Peterson was named to the 2015 STATS FCS Preseason All-America first team.
Peterson, a two-time All-Big South first team selection (2013 and 2014), set single-season program records in 2014 with 85 receptions and 1,379 receiving yards. He also finished the year with 12 receiving touchdowns, the second highest single-season total in program history.
The native of Attalla, Ala., finished the year with eight 100-yard receiving games, giving him a school-record 12 career 100-yard receiving games. He ranked No. 4 in receiving yards in the country, No. 10 in receiving touchdowns and receiving yards per game (98.5) and No. 25 in receptions per game (6.1).
