Liberty student-athletes are accustomed to facing opposition on the court. However, this past week the Flames and Lady Flames partnered with an organization known as Project Life to help fight the battle against a much more formidable opponent – cancer.
Project Life is an organization committed to curing cancer and other diseases by encouraging others to join the bone marrow registry and spreading awareness. Liberty's goal was to garner at least 1,000 new bone marrow registrations in a five-day span (March 23-27). By the end of the week, Liberty Athletics had collected 1,007 registrations.
The following feature, which first appeared on the Liberty Flames Sports Network's daily show "Game On," takes a look at the unique partnership. During the three-minute segment, LFSN's Alan York talks with Liberty's Senior Woman Administrator Erin Hagen and Project Life Founder David Lindsay about the partnership and the importance of bone marrow donations.
Liberty's Flames4Life campaign was an answer to a challenge made by the Big South Conference, which encouraged students from every member institution to register 411 new donors. The Flames more than doubled that goal with the donations collected on campus.
