Flames Defeat Wildcats, 4-3, Saturday

The Liberty Flames men's tennis squad notched its second consecutive victory with a 4-3 victory over Abilene Christian in Abilene, Texas, Saturday. With the win, the Flames improve to 6-4 on the season while the Wildcats fall to 3-10.
Liberty jumped on the board by winning the first two doubles matches to finish, the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles slots. Dillon Segur and Diego Castano bested Guilherme Gesser and Nico Agritelley, 6-3, to begin doubles play from the No. 1 slot. Egon Samaai and David Bush were able to upend Paul Domanski and Marco Bensley, 6-2, to clinch the doubles point.
With the Flames ahead 1-0, Liberty and the Wildcats split singles play, 3-3.
Segur defeated Gesser in three sets to secure the first Liberty singles match. After falling in the first set, 6-7, the North Carolina native bounced back to win the next two sets, 6-1, 6-4 to give Liberty its second point in singles.
After Matheson fell at the No. 2 singles slot to Agritelley, Samaai pushed the Liberty lead back to two by ousting Jason Proctor in straight sets, 7-6, 7-6 in No. 3 singles.
Jorge Azuero clinched the match for the Flames with a three-set win over Henry Adams. Adams defeated Azuero in the first set, 6-4. However, the Colombian native rebounded, winning the second set by a score of 6-3 and the third set, 6-1, to clinch the match for the Flames.
"Wins on the road are always earned and this one was no different," commented head coach Chris Johnson. "We played well in doubles today and our senior captains really stepped up."
Liberty returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to San Antonio, Texas for a doubleheader. The Flames will first take on Incarnate Word at 10 a.m. ET., followed by St. Mary's at 3 p.m. ET.
