The Liberty men's tennis squad (4-4) will begin conference play tomorrow against the Longwood Lancers (0-5). After not having the chance to compete in nearly a month due to inclement weather, the Flames will be in action tomorrow at the Sports Racket at 1 p.m.
Liberty enters the contest having dropped three consecutive matches, including a 4-2 loss against then No. 71 Miami. Freshman Diego Castano leads the way in singles wins for the red and blue, boasting a 5-2 record as well as a 5-3 doubles record.
The Flames are 16-4 all-time against the Lancers, including victories in the last five matches. Liberty won the last meeting, 5-2, in Farmville, Va., on March 27, 2014. With a win tomorrow, the Flames would move to 1-0 in Big South play for the second time in the last three years. Liberty is 4-1 in Big South home openers in the last five years with their last conference home opener victory coming against Longwood, 7-0, on March 6, 2013.
The Lancers enter the match with an 0-5 overall record. Tomorrow's match will mark the Big South conference opener for Longwood. In their most recent contest, the Lancers fell to Bluefield State, 4-3, on Feb. 28. The Flames bested the Blues earlier this year, 6-1, on Jan. 30 at the Sports Racket.
Following tomorrow's match, Liberty returns to action Saturday when the Flames face off against Abilene Christian in Abilene, Texas. No start time has been confirmed as of yet.
