
Flames Drop Road Contest to FAU

The Liberty Flames men's tennis squad fell to Florida Atlantic in the first-ever meeting between the squads, 4-0, in Boca Raton, Fla., earlier this afternoon. With the loss, the Flames fall to 4-2 on the season; meanwhile the Owls improve to 2-5.
FAU tallied the first point of the afternoon with wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions. At No. 1, Andrei Morin-Kougoucheff and Will Neuner ousted Egon Samaai and Dillon Segur, 6-4. Zandrix Acob and Sean Bacha clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 victory over Liberty's Jorge Azuero and Diego Castano.
The No. 2 doubles match was ruled unfinished with the score knotted at four apiece.
The Owls clinched their second team point of the contest with Morin-Kougoucheff edging Samaai in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
Acob was able to upend Sam Matheson, 6-3, 6-1 from the No. 3 singles slot to push the advantage to 3-0 in favor of FAU.
The Owls' Stefan Burnett sealed the victory for his squad with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over David Bush from the No. 6 singles slot.
With the match already clinched, the remaining singles contests were deemed unfinished with the Flames ahead in the No. 4 and No. 5 singles spots.
Liberty returns to action tomorrow when they take on Florida Gulf Coast at 2 p.m. at Neil Schiff Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Miami.
