With the 2015 calendar year set to close in the coming weeks, LFSN reporter Nick Pierce recently had a chance to recap the year with Director of Athletics Jeff Barber.
The two opened their conversation talking about facility announcements during the year, starting with the new Academic Performance Center. The 60,000-square foot facility will serve as a centralized academic support area, athletic training room and weight room. The facility is slated to open for the start of the 2017-18 academic year.
Additionally, Barber provided an update on the new indoor football practice facility that was announced during Liberty's season finale against No. 4 Coastal Carolina and the new indoor track & field facility. Both facilities are scheduled to open in the next 12-16 months.
Following the facility updates, Barber started discussing that action on the field of play, beginning with a recap of the football season. Liberty's Director of Athletics also looked at the success of women's soccer, field hockey and women's lacrosse, plus the return of Ritchie McKay as men's basketball coach.
During the closing minutes of the interview, Barber discussed his expectations for Liberty Athletics during the upcoming 2016 calendar year.
