
Uzowihe and Masha Named Big South Players of the Week

Chima Uzowihe and Stephon Masha were honored today by the Big South for their efforts in Liberty's 34-0 shutout victory over Gardner-Webb on Saturday.
Uzowihe was named the Big South Defensive Player of the Week, while Masha was selected the Big South Freshman of the Week.
Uzowihe tied a career high, finishing the game with 2.5 of Liberty's five total sacks against the Runnin' Bulldogs. His 2.5 sacks moved him into fifth place on Liberty's career sack list (15.0). Three of his four tackles during the game were sacks.
The Houston, Texas, native was part of a defensive line that helped Liberty finish the game with 12 tackles for a loss. The Flames limited Gardner-Webb to a Liberty opponent record -17 team rushing yards (previous record was -10 rushing yards by Kutztown in 1991).
Gardner-Webb finished the game with 56 total yards on 55 plays and did not have positive team total offensive yards until midway through the third quarter.
Liberty shut out Gardner-Webb for the second meeting in a row and posted the Flames' third shutout in three seasons under head coach Turner Gill.
Masha was used in three different parts of Liberty's offense on Saturday. He finished the game with a career-high four carries for 49 yards and had two receptions for nine yards. The Austell, Ga., native also completed his first collegiate passing attempt for three yards.
He was Liberty's second leading rusher and helped the Flames finish the contest with 292 rushing yards.
Uzowihe, Masha and the Flames will play their first Big South road contest of the year on Saturday when they travel to Clinton, S.C., to face Presbyterian. The contest will be televised on the Liberty Flames Sports Network and kicks offs from Bailey Memorial Stadium at 2 p.m.
