Four Liberty football players have picked up preseason All-America honors from the Beyond College Sports Network (BSN), including Malcolm Boyd and Kevin Fogg earning first-team All-America accolades.
Joining Boyd (offensive line) and Fogg (kickoff return specialist) on the 2012 BSN FCS Preseason All-America teams were second-team honoree Richard Wright (long snapper) and third-team selection Aaron Lundy (offensive line).
Boyd was an Associated Press third-team All-American last season after starting 10 of 11 games at left guard. The Big South first-team honoree graded out at 86 percent and recorded 60 knockdowns and allowed only one sack.
Fogg earned first-team All-America honors in 2011 as a kickoff return specialist from the Sports Network, College Sporting News and the Walter Camp Foundation. He led the country by averaging 33.5 yards per return and set a program and Big South record with three kickoff returns for a touchdown.
Wright was named to the College Sporting News Fabulous Fifty FCS All-America team after starting all 11 games as a long snapper for the second year in a row. He helped punter Mike Larsson finish his senior season with a career-best 42.8 punting average and kicker Matt Bevins complete his career as Liberty's all-time leader in points scored (309), field goals (58) and extra points (135).
Lundy was a Big South second-team honoree after the junior team captain started all 11 games during the 2011 season. He graded out at 89 percent, the highest grade for a Liberty offensive lineman during the season.
Along with Boyd, Lundy was part of an offensive line that helped the Flames finish the year ranked No. 8 in the country in scoring offense (35.91 points per game), No. 19 in passing offense (270.27) and No. 20 in total offense (426.25).
The four BSC All-America honorees, along with the rest of the Flames, will return to Liberty Mountain on Aug. 3 to start their preseason workouts under first-year head coach Turner Gill.
Liberty will open its 2012 season on the road against ACC foe Wake Forest on Sept. 1 at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN3. The Flames will then kick off their home slate against Norfolk State, a 2011 NCAA FCS Playoff team, on Sept. 8 at 7 p.m., on the Flames Sports Network.
