The first significant Lynchburg rain fall during the month of August could not dampen the spirits of the 2011 Flames football team and those who gathered for the program's annual Football Media Day on Sunday afternoon.
Just as the team was gathering in the Williams Football Operations Center hallway outside the team's locker room, the mid-afternoon skies opened up and the Central Virginia area received a steady dose of some much-needed rain for a 30-plus minute period.
With the inclement weather, many of the planned outdoor activities had to be altered and most of the team's individual and group photos were taken in various locations throughout the building until the storms cleared the area.
The team photo, which was originally scheduled for around 2:30 p.m., finally started to take shape roughly 60 minutes later.
While the squad waited for the team photo to be set up, Liberty's players and coaches had a chance to interact with a healthy group of supporters, player family members and students who braved the conditions and waited out the storm.
After autographs were signed and individual pictures were taken with those gatherers, Liberty's 90-plus man roster, coaches and support staff finally gathered in the stands on the East side of the stadium to take the 2011 team photo.
The adapted afternoon schedule finally wrapped up around 4 p.m., officially bringing a close to the Flames' 2011 Football Training Camp.
Liberty's players will have tomorrow off from any football-related activities, as the University will hold its first session of fall classes. The Flames will return to the practice field on Tuesday for a normal in-season afternoon practice, which runs from approximately 3:45 to 6 p.m.
Liberty will follow the same practice schedule on Wednesday and Friday, while holding an evening practice under the Williams Stadium lights on Thursday (6:45 to 9 p.m.). The Flames will wrap up their week in between training camp and their preparation week for the season opener against N.C. State with a Saturday morning practice.
LibertyFlames.com will have continued coverage of the Flames' 2011 Football Media Day tomorrow, plus a full Football Training Camp recap video interview with head coach Danny Rocco.
