Flames Practice Recap: Tuesday (Aug. 16)

The Flames held their final two-a-day practice of training camp on Tuesday, with Liberty working out in full pads during the morning and in "shells" during the afternoon.
During the morning workout, which ran from 9 to 10:55 a.m., head coach Danny Rocco had a strong emphasis on the Flames' run game. Last season, Liberty rushed for 1,881 yards and 21 touchdowns, helping the Flames finish the year ranked No. 2 nationally in total offense (459.91 yards per game) and No. 3 in scoring (36.45 points per game).
The afternoon workout was held in "shells" (just shoulder pads and helmets) and was conducted on the grass practice field adjacent to the Williams Football Operations Center. Practicing in just "shells" granted Rocco and his staff more teaching opportunities, which they used to further instruct the Flames on third-down plays and their nickel packages.
Today, Liberty held its third and final "two-a-day" practice of training camp. A "two-a-day" schedule is grueling, requiring players and coaches to put in a 15-hour work day that starts at 7 a.m.
During today's post practice interview with Rocco and defensive back Walt Aikens, "Voice of the Flames" Alan York had a chance to talk with the pair about the rigorous demands of a "two-a-day" practice schedule.
