Lady Flames Advance with 4-0 Win Over Radford

With its tenth-consecutive victory, the No. 3 seeded Lady Flames won their first-round match at the 2011 Big South Women's Tennis Championship, Thursday afternoon, defeating No. 6 seed Radford 4-0. The contest encountered multiple delays due to rain passing through the Rock Hill, S.C., area where the tournament is being held on the campus of Winthrop University.
The Lady Flames' record improves to 15-6 with the victory, while the Highlanders' season is complete with a 6-15 overall mark. The 15 wins by Liberty's women ties the program's single-season wins mark, which was set by the 2009 team.
Liberty began its shutout win by securing the doubles point. Carol Lobel and Valeriya Klintsevich scored the first win of the session, knocking off Sara Tegner and Emerald Lauzon, 8-1, in the No. 3 match. Freshmen Alexandra Sheeran and Rebekah Jenkins then gave the Lady Flames their first tally by defeating Ivana Tomaic and Mirna Matic in the No. 2 contest.
Liberty continued to roll in singles play, taking three straight-sets wins to advance into the semifinal round. Jordan Jenkins notched a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Petra Dajevic in the lead singles match for her 12th singles win of the year. Sheeran closed out her match over Tegner, 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 5 match, while Rebekah Jenkins earned a 6-0, 6-3 win over Lauzon in the No. 6 position to wrap up the match.
Liberty advances to the semifinal round of the Big South Championship, where No. 2 seed Coastal Carolina awaits after the Chanticleers defeated No. 7 seed UNC Asheville, Thursday, 4-1. The Lady Flames and Chanticleers are slated to begin at noon tomorrow as tournament action continues.
