FCS Coaches Poll
Sports Network Poll
Liberty's victory over Lafayette on Saturday gave the Flames a win in seven of their last nine road games and helped the Flames to crack the Top 25 in both the FCS Coaches and Sports Network weekly polls.
The Flames scored 16-unanswered points in the first half of their road game at Lafayette, last Saturday, en route to a 19-13 victory over the Leopards. The victory helped avenge Liberty's 35-21 setback to Lafayette at Williams Stadium on Oct. 18, 2008.
For the third-straight week, Liberty remained ranked No. 24 in the FCS Coaches poll, as the Flames pulled in 66 votes. Holy Cross, who moved to 3-0 on the season with a 27-20 victory over previously ranked No. 25 Harvard, jumped over the Flames in the listing to No. 23, as the Crusaders collected 84 votes.
Liberty, who had been sitting as the second team listed among "Other Receiving Votes" in the last three Sports Network polls, garnered enough votes to crack the web site's official Top 25 this week.
The Flames just edged out Florida A&M for the 25th and final spot in the listing. Liberty collected 297 votes, as compared to the Rattlers' 295 votes. Eastern Illinois is sitting at No. 24 in the Sports Network weekly listing, as the Panthers are off to a 3-0 start in 2009, helping them receive 395 votes in this week's ranking.
Last year, the Flames spent nine-straight weeks and 10 weeks overall listed in both the Sports Network and FCS Coaches polls. At the end of the year, Liberty stood at No. 14 in the Sports Network listing and No. 15 in the FCS Coaches Poll.
Richmond remains the No. 1 team on both listings, followed directly by Villanova at No. 2. Northern Iowa is listed at No. 3 in the Sports Network poll and No. 4 in the FCS Coaches listing, while Montana is flip-flopped in the rankings. William & Mary rounds out the No. 5 spot in both listings.
James Madison, Liberty's opponent for this week, is listed at No. 6 in the FCS Coaches poll and No. 7 in the latest Sports Network poll.
The Saturday matchup with the Dukes will mark the 13th time in program history the Flames have squared off against a Top 10 ranked team. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., at Williams Stadium.
