As part of today's Countdown to Kickoff coverage, LibertyFlames.com is proud to bring you the 2009 version of the Flames football media guide.
The publication provides the most comprehensive and in-depth insight into the upcoming 2009 football season, including sections on the University, a 2009 season outlook, coaches and player bios, a quick glance at Liberty's 2009 opponents, a review of the 2008 season, information on the Big South Conference and a complete record section.
Over the past two years, Liberty's football media guide has been recognized by the College Sports Information Directors of America, as the publication finished third both years in the organization's annual publication contest. The contest judges and rates all submitted NCAA FCS football media guides in the nation, providing insightful criticism on the overall usefulness of the media guide.
The cover of this year's media guide has already drawn national attention, as the collaborative effort of Les Schofer and Brian Wallace of Liberty's University Advancement office has been honored. Schofer, the University's Athletics Photographer, won an award for his photographic cover work in a contest held by the University Photographers' Association of America.
The 2009 football media guide is available for purchase, should fans want to get their hands on a copy for easier use than off of LibertyFlames.com. The 196-page publication can be purchased by sending a $20 check made payable to Liberty University to the following address:

Over the weekend, Countdown to Kickoff's coverage will be providing insight into both Liberty's program, as well as one of its Big South Conference members.
On Saturday, LibertyFlames.com will be previewing the Flames quarterback position, which will be a key role to watch all throughout August training camp. Two-time Big South first-team all-conference honoree Brock Smith graduated last year as the program's third-best career passer (7,036 yards and 50 touchdowns), leaving an opening on head coach Danny Rocco's depth chart under center.
Redshirt sophomore Mike Brown was tabbed Rocco's starter for last April's annual Spring Game over senior Spencer Landis. However, South Carolina Tommy Beecher has joined the Flames roster and all three will be vying for the starting job when Liberty takes the field against West Virginia on Sept. 5.
On Sunday, LibertyFlames.com will begin its six-part series, previewing each opposing member of the Big South Conference. Opening the series will be the Presbyterian Blue Hose, whose games will count toward conference standing for the first time this upcoming season. However, the league rookies still will not be eligible for the conference's title until 2011.
On Monday, LibertyFlames.com will once again be stationed inside the press box at Williams Stadium, blogging live during the Flames' first practice with full pads. Over the weekend, the squad will practice without pads on Friday night at 6:45 p.m., and in shells on Saturday and Sunday at 2:20 p.m.
