LU Makes It Two in a Row With Win over UR

A victory at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles coupled with three singles victories enable the Flames to walk away with their second straight win in a 4-3 decision over Richmond, Tuesday afternoon, at the Spiders' Tennis Courts.
The one-point win, Liberty's second in a row and sixth in their last eight matches, ups the Flames' record to 6-3 on the season.
The doubles pair of Clay Cypert and Giancarlo Lemmi picked up their team-leading sixth doubles win of the year, edging the Spiders' Will Minter and Dylan Schrode, 8-5, at No. 1 doubles.
The tandem matches continued to remain close at No. 2 doubles, with the homestanding Spiders evening the overall doubles match with a win by Sami Belakhlef and Sam Hyland over the Flames Chad Simpson and Gregorio Machado, 9-7.
However, Juan Reyes and Louis Steyn took their second straight win at No. 3 doubles, dominating Rafa Arana and A.J. Nelson, 8-1, to seal a 1-0 team lead for Liberty following the trio of doubles contests.
Liberty then turned its attention to its singles match, first looking to Cypert at No. 1 to jumpstart the visitors. And the Ada, Okla., native did not disappoint, as the junior quickly dispatched Belakhlef in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
Steyn continued Liberty's success at No. 2 singles, as the junior defeated Will Minter, 6-0, 6-3, to give Liberty a 3-1 team lead. The win was the Bloemfontein, South Africa, native sixth win of the season, tying him with Reyes for the team lead in singles early in the 2008-09 season.
Looking to seal the match, Simpson took the courts for the Flames and the junior gave Liberty its third-consecutive straight sets win, as he downed Arana at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-3, to close out the overall match for the Flames.
The Spiders were able to claim wins during the final three singles matches, starting with a hard-fought win by Matt Feeley over Lemmi. After splitting the first two sets (7-5, 1-6), the Spiders' freshman outlast Liberty's rookie, 12-10, to take the No. 4 singles bout.
The final two matchups went in straight sets to the homestanding Spiders. Nelson downed Machado (6-2, 6-3) at No. 5 singles and Hyland defeated Reyes (6-4, 6-3) at No. 6 singles to being the in-state squabble to a close.
With nine matches in the books, the Flames now turn their attention to Big South Conference action. Liberty will welcome Coastal Carolina to Lynchburg on Friday, opening a three-match homestand for the Flames. The doubles point is set to be contested at 1 p.m.
