For the fourth time this season and the unprecedented 16th time in her career, Liberty senior guard/forward Megan Frazee has been tabbed the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Basketball Player of the Week. She breaks the conference career record of 15 Big South Women's Basketball Player of the Week awards, previously held by former Liberty standout Katie Feenstra.
Frazee (Xenia, Ohio) scored 10 of the Lady Flames' first 11 points during their game at Gardner-Webb on Feb. 9, helping Liberty take an 11-4 lead out of the gate. Frazee never slowed down, contributing a season-high 31 points to the Lady Flames' 58-51 triumph, making Liberty the first visiting team to win at Paul Porter Arena all season.
Frazee also led all players with 10 rebounds versus the Bulldogs, completing her third consecutive double-double. The Buckeye State native shot 65 percent (13-of-20) from the field and made all four of her free throws, including a pair with 23 seconds remaining, which sealed the Lady Flames' triumph.
Frazee was previously recognized as Big South Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Nov. 17, Jan. 5 and Jan. 26 this season. She is the only conference player who has captured the award more than two times during the 2008-09 campaign.
Liberty players have won three of the last four Big South Women's Basketball Player of the Week awards. Frazee earned the honor on Jan. 26 and Feb. 16, while classmate Rachel Hammond (Clearwater, Fla.) was recognized on Feb. 2.
Frazee and the Lady Flames will host Winthrop tonight at the Vines Center, in a contest between a pair of teams riding extended winning streaks. Liberty has won 12 straight games, while Winthrop enters Lynchburg on a five-game winning skein. Tonight's game, which is slated for a 7 p.m. tip-off, will be the Lady Flames' "Pink Zone" contest, part of a national initiative to promote breast cancer awareness.
