The Flames began their charge toward a third-straight Big South Conference title in grand fashion on Saturday afternoon, thrilling the Williams Stadium Homecoming crowd with a 58-13 victory over Big South rival Coastal Carolina.
A 14-yard touchdown run by Aldreakis Allen with 4:55 left in the third quarter began Liberty's push toward the 45-point victory. The bruising run started a stretch where Liberty scored 42-straight points to put the game out of reach.
Below are some news and notes from Liberty's Big South opener against the Chanticleers:
• The game was played in front of 14,371 fans, marking the fourth home game this season Liberty has had an attendance figure above 14,000 fans.
• With 14,371 fans in attendance, Liberty's match-up with Coastal Carolina was the ninth highest attended FCS game this past weekend around the country.
• All four of Liberty's home games have ranked in the Top 10 in single-game FCS attendance during their specific weekend in 2009.
