Liberty Head Football Coach Danny Rocco held his weekly media press conference in the Donor Room of the Williams Football Operations Center earlier this afternoon.
During the 30-minute press conference, Rocco touched on numerous subjects, including Liberty's idle period last week, a few remarks recapping the Western Carolina road victory and a preview of the Flames' match-up with Youngstown State this upcoming weekend, and also:
• Remarked about the positive timing of the open Saturday last weekend
• Talked about the team's focus during last week's practice, including personal player improvement and the scouting of future opponents
• Gave an injury update, including the playing status of offensive lineman Britt Stone, tight end Tommy Shaver and linebacker Kyle O'Donnell
• Previewed Youngstown State, touching on the program's strong tradition, the coaching abilities of head coach Jon Heacock and the Penguin's early season wins and losses
• Commented on how much of an attention "getter" Youngstown State's victory over No. 2 North Dakota State was for Liberty
• Asked to remark on any player evaluation that might have taken place last week during the open week and if there will be any changes to the starting line-up because of those evaluations
• Commented on some of the unique plays during the Western Carolina game during which Brock Smith opted to rush the football
• Asked to respond on playing in a daunting atmosphere like Stambaugh Stadium and how he plans to prepare his team for such an environment
• Commented on his plan to make a switch at the kicking position, as Matt Bevins will be handling all kicking duties during the Youngstown State game
• Asked about his observation with regard to Youngstown State's successful running formations against No. 2 North Dakota State last weekend
• Remarked on Youngstown State's quarterback Brandon Summers and his ability to not only drop back and pass, but also to gain yardage via the run game
• Commented on the relative even play between the two programs, but expressed some concerns over the Penguin's large offensive and defensive linemen
• Reflected on a loose ball play during the Western Carolina game and the team's high penalty total during the road victory
• Spoke about the team's mental approach to the game against Youngstown State and how the nation is watching for the outcome of the contest to determine how far Liberty's program has come and if they are ready to compete at the national level
