As the web site did last year, LibertyFlames.com met with head football coach Danny Rocco following Thursday's afternoon practice midway through Liberty's week off, following its road victory over Western Carolina last Saturday.
Below is a list of questions LibertyFlames.com asked Rocco, addressing both the team's performance in it three-point victory over the Catamounts and the team's preparation during this week off before Liberty travels to Youngstown, Ohio for the middle contest of a three-game road swing against Youngstown State.
1. During the offseason, you stressed to your program the importance of winning on the road. Overall, were you pleased with your team's ability to fend off a late charge from Western Carolina last Saturday and pick up a road victory?
2. Against the Catamounts, your team entered the locker room trailing by one point. What kind of adjustments did the coaching staff make during the intermission to help your team score 13 points in the third quarter and secure the victory?
3. After sitting out the Glenville State game with a hand injury, Rashad Jennings returned to the line-up and rushed for 116 yards. How would you rate the running back's performance following the injury and what are you expecting from him the remainder of the season?
4. Your team dominated several different statistical categories in the Western Carolina game, including a 15-minute time of possession advantage. Can we expect more of the same ball-control type offense from Liberty the rest of the season?
5. In the Western Carolina game, Zach Terrell had his 18-game rushing touchdown streak halted. What can you say about such an impressive streak, especially from an athlete who has been more than just a running back during the stretch?
6. Liberty is off to its first 3-0 start since the 1997 season. Are you pleased with your program's start to the year and are you where you were hoping to be heading into this week off?
7. During this off week, were there certain areas that you and your coaching staff wanted to focus in on during your practice and video sessions?
8. This year, you changed up your days off during the bye week, as you gave your players last Sunday, Monday and Tuesday off instead of the upcoming weekend off. Was there a reason for the change and if so, do you feel it was beneficial for your players and the coaching staff?
9. With the rash of injuries that Liberty has experienced this year, does this week off fall at just the right time for this program, allowing some key starters and reserves to return to full strength?
10. Recently, it was announced that you are a candidate for the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year award. With this being a presidential election year in the United States, what kind of "platform" can we expected from the Rocco ticket in this upcoming award campaign?
The Flames will practice on Friday and Saturday before taking Sunday off to conclude their week off during the 2008 season. Next Monday, Liberty will return to Williams Stadium under the lights for their usual Monday evening practice, the first of five practices, to help the Flames prepare for their road showdown with Youngstown State on Sept. 27 up in the Buckeye State.
