Hoskins Closes Liberty Career
6/12/2008 12:00:00 AM | Track and Field
Due to a persistent hamstring injury, Liberty senior Brandon Hoskins was forced to withdraw from the decathlon competition after completing the first six events, Thursday afternoon at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Hoskins ran the 110-meter hurdles in 15.80 seconds to open day two competition, before realizing he was unable to go on with the final four disciplines. The senior was in 21st place with 4,361 points at the time.
Thus ends Hoskins' distinguished Liberty track & field career. He finishes with two All-America honors and a trio of individual IC4A crowns. Hoskins also owns both the Liberty and Big South Conference records in the decathlon (7,800 points) and heptathlon (5,383 points).
The senior still holds out hope for competing in the U.S. Olympic Trials, in just over two weeks. He is on the bubble at this moment, as only the nation's top 18 decathletes will be invited.
A pair of Liberty athletes will be in action on Friday, wrapping up the Flames' participation in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Clendon Henderson (Sr., Meadow, Texas) will compete in the men's discus final at 4:15 p.m. Eastern, and Evans Kigen (So., Eldoret, Kenya) will run in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase final at 8:40. CBS College Sports will broadcast the meet live, from 8-11 p.m. Eastern.
