Flames Earn Solid Win Over Cougars

The Liberty men's tennis team returned to action Tuesday night, squaring off against Averett in Danville, Va. The Flames picked up a solid, 8-1 non-conference road win over the Cougars, taking all but one singles contest in the victory.

Liberty swept doubles for the fourth time this season, giving up only seven games in all three matches. The senior, freshman combo of Jarda Trojan and Leandro Schjumann defeated Averett's Marcelo Diaz and Xavier Ruiz in No. 1 doubles, 8-3. Chad Simpson and Juan Reyes bested the Cougars' No. 2 doubles tandem 8-2, while Sebastian Pena and Franco Valdez completed the sweep with an 8-1 victory in No. 3 doubles.

In singles action, the Flames continued their winning ways, capturing five-of-six singles contests. Schjumann and Reyes did not give a game in No. 4 and No. 5 singles respectively, taking both matches in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Riso nearly mirrored their performances in No. 6 singles, defeating Will Sanford, 6-0, 6-1. Chad Simpson defeated Diaz in No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-3, while Trojan picked up another solid win in No. 3 singles, beating Ruiz, 6-3, 6-4.

The Flames next host UNC Asheville. Match time at the Esbenshade-Hershey Tennis Center is slated for 1 p.m.
