As the web site did last year, LibertyFlames.com met with head football coach Danny Rocco following Thursday's afternoon practice to get a final update on the team's preparation for its Saturday evening's match-up with Big South foe Gardner-Webb at Williams Stadium.
Below is a list of questions LibertyFlames.com asked Rocco, wrapping up comments from the Flames' 12-point victory over VMI last weekend, the team clinching its second straight Big South title following Gardner-Webb's setback to Coastal Carolina and the team's preparation for their pending match-up with the Bulldogs to wrap up conference play:
1. Your team seemed to respond quite well last week, coming back from a loss with drive and determination against the Keydets. How pleased where you that your squad put the Presbyterian game behind them and started focusing on the remainder of the season?
2. How satisfying was it to hear that Coastal Carolina had defeated Gardner-Webb last week, securing one of the team's goals coming into the season – to win back-to-back Big South Conference championships.?
3. Last week, your squad was able to keep VMI's national leading rushing attack somewhat in check by allowing only three rushing touchdowns. How many times in your coaching career have your given up nearly 400 rushing yards in a game and still won the contest?
4. Your defense forced the Keydets to fumble the ball six times during last week's battle, leading to a pair of VMI turnovers. How impressed were you with the level of physical play your defensive players displayed against a relatively strong team?
5. Corey Rasberry had a break out day against the Keydets, finishing with 53 yards receiving and his first career touchdown. How pleased were you to see this senior, who has been a solid run blocker for the program, finally get some time in the offensive spotlight?
6. We talk to you quite often about running back Rashad Jennings, but this week we have to ask you how pleased you are for him that he was able to become the Big South's all-time leading rusher last week, continuing the senior's efforts to leave his legacy on both the program and conference's record books?
7. Regarding this week's match-up with Gardner-Webb, how focused do you think both teams are heading into the contest, considering the Flames have already wrapped up the conference title and Gardner-Webb has seen its dream of a league title come to an end?
8. The Bulldogs come into the game with the Big South's best rush stopping defensive attack, allowing only 110 yards per contest. What is it going to take for the Flames to best Gardner-Webb's stout rush defense and continue Liberty's dominant play on the ground?
9. This game showcases two of the elite wide receivers in the Big South, in Dominic Bolden and Dobson Collins. Are this pair's receiving styles similar or are Flames fans going to see two different approaches to playing the position from these talented athletes?
10. Considering the Flames have already wrapped up the Big South title, how important is it for this year's squad to win the game against Gardner-Webb, giving credence to the fact that Liberty's 2008 teams is one of the best ever in Big South Conference history?
At the conclusion of Saturday's contest, the Flames will be awarded their second straight Big South Conference trophy. The Flames will be looking to hoist the hardware following back-to-back undefeated conference seasons, while Gardner-Webb enters its final game in 2008 looking to spoil the Flames post-game celebration plans by securing a winning season of their own.
