
Liberty Men Compete at ITA Regionals

The Liberty men's tennis team participated this past weekend in the ITA Mideast Regional Indoors at Chapel Hill, N.C.
In doubles, both Liberty pairings fell in tightly contested matches. Callum Gee and Eric Noble of Davidson edged the Flames' duo of Chad Simpson and Louis Steyn in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7), in qualifying. The Liberty pair of Clay Cypert and Giancarlo Lemmi battled No.5 seed Richard Wardell and Sebastian Vidal William & Mary in a back-and-forth match, before dropping the match, 8-6.
In singles, Liberty's Cypert fell to Georgia Tech's Ryan Smith, 7-5, 6-4, in a tightly played qualifying contest. Meanwhile, Steyn fell to Alain Michael of Duke in the main draw's opening round, 6-4, 6-2.
The ITA Regional Indoors concludes the fall season for the men's tennis team. The Flames begin their spring season on Jan. 17 at Old Dominion.
