As the web site did last year, LibertyFlames.com met with head football coach Danny Rocco following Thursday's afternoon practice to get a final update on the team's preparation for its Saturday night match-up against Stony Brook at Williams Stadium.
Below is a list of questions LibertyFlames.com asked Rocco, wrapping up comments from the team's victory over Big South rival Coastal Carolina last weekend in Conway, S.C., and the team's preparation for the team's first-ever match-up with Stony Brook:
1. Last weekend, your squad closed out a three-game road stretch with its third-consecutive victory. Do you feel that your team has taken to heart and bought into your off-season emphasis to win on the road?
2. Liberty officially began to defend its 2007 Big South title last weekend at Coastal Carolina. How important was it to open the conference portion of your schedule with a victory and what kind of message did it send to the rest of the league regarding Liberty's efforts to win back-to-back championships?
3. With the victory over Coastal Carolina, your program posted its 10th-straight victory, dating back to the Charleston Southern game last year. Have you ever been part of a team that has put together such an outstanding run of success?
4. For the second week in a row, the Flames dramatically cut back on their penalty total, having the whistle blown four times against Coastal Carolina. What has led to your program's turnaround in the area of penalties over the last few games?
5. After allowing three sacks in the season opener, your offensive line has really jelled. The unit has allowed only one sack over the last four games and Liberty ranks among the nation's best in rushing offense. What can you attribute their success to this season?
6. Stony Brook marks the second of three first-time opponents on Liberty's schedule this year. How different is it to prepare for an opponent you have never previously faced, as opposed to a team you face year-in and year-out?
7. Stony Brook got off to a solid start in 2008, with a victory over Colgate and a close battle with now Top 10 Elon. What has been the difference of late for the Seawolves and which program are you expecting to see at Williams Stadium on Saturday?
8. Quarterback Brock Smith had a solid game at Coastal Carolina, surpassing the 200-passing yard mark, while tossing three touchdown passes for the second time this year. What are you expecting from your senior team captain as the Flames now enter the heart of conference play?
9. With senior Zach Terrell being sidelined over the next few weeks following his injury at Coastal Carolina, what can the fans expect to see from B.J. Hayes and does he provide Liberty with some talents that Terrell doesn't have?
10. After playing the last month on the road, how happy is your program to be back in Lynchburg and playing in front of what could be a record-setting crowd on Saturday?
Saturday's contest against Stony Brook marks the beginning of a three-game homestand for the Flames, all of which will be 3:30 p.m. contests. Two of the three games will be Big South battles, completing the first half of Liberty's 2008 Big South schedule.
