9/4/2006 12:00:00 AM | Football
Liberty University football program was one of 54 teams to receive votes in this week's Sports Network I-AA weekly poll released earlier today thanks in part to the team's season-opening 27-0 victory over St. Paul's last Thursday.
Of the 54 teams, 25 were named to the weekly Top 25 poll, while 29 other teams also received consideration by tallying votes. Liberty received a total of seven votes in the poll, making it the second Big South team to be considered for the national weekly Top 25 poll. Fellow conference foe Coastal Carolina dropped out of the preseason Top 25 after their 23-20 home loss to Elon on Saturday and received 14 votes this week.
Two other opponents on Liberty's schedule also received votes in the Sports Network's first weekly poll of the year as William & Mary, who is coming off a 27-14 loss to I-A Maryland, received 47 votes, while Towson, who downed Morgan State 30-2 on Saturday, received nine votes.
The Flames will be looking for their first 2-0 start since the 1997 season when they host Glenville State on Saturday evening at Williams Stadium. Kickoff for the game is schedule for 7 p.m.
