Andrew Shumate was promoted to his current role of Associate Athletic Director for Event Management and Facilities in July 2025.
He originally joined the Liberty Athletics Department in July 2018 as Director of Event Management and was promoted to the position of Assistant Athletic Director for Event Management in July 2019.
In his current position, Shumate leads the event management and facilities staff and operations for all Liberty Athletics events. He serves as the primary event manager for home football events and oversees all conference and NCAA championships hosted on the Liberty campus. In addition to his events role, he also manages the day-to-day operations of the football facilities, including Williams Stadium, Indoor Practice Facility and Liberty Football Center as well as the Liberty Multipurpose Center.
Prior to coming to Liberty in 2018, Shumate served as an Event Coordinator at Washington State from June 2014-June 2018. He was tasked with comprehensive planning, coordination and oversight of various athletic events at the university. Shumate worked as the game manager for Washington State Olympic sports during those four years, including: volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf and swimming & diving. He assisted in hosting the 2015 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship Regional in Spokane, Wash.
Shumate also gained experience in the event management field in 2013 and 2014, serving as the Assistant Director, Facilities and Operations, at Ohio. Before that, he worked at Wake Forest as an Event Management Assistant (2012-13). Also in 2012, Shumate was employed as an Operations Intern for the Greeneville Astros in Greeneville, Tenn.
Shumate holds membership with the Collegiate Event and Facility Management Association (CEFMA).
Shumate played college basketball at Maryville College (TN) from 2005-09. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in business and organizational management and a minor degree in accounting from Maryville in 2009. He then went on to obtain a master’s degree in sport management from ETSU in 2012.
Shumate and his wife, Holly, reside in Forest, Va. with their two children, Grady and Hadley.
