Liberty Women's Tennis announced the hiring of Colby Meeks as his assistant coach on Aug. 1, 2024. Meeks joined Liberty with ten years of coaching experience at Rice (2018-24), New Mexico (2016-18) and Cameron of Oklahoma (2014-16).
Meeks most recently served as the assistant coach at Rice where he had led them to a CUSA Conference Championship title and a NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship appearance in 2019. The Owls were consistently ranked among the top 75 programs in the nation (ITA). Over his first four seasons with the program, Rice was ranked in the top 45 in the country.
A native of San Angelo, Texas, Meeks began his college tennis playing career under current Liberty Women's Tennis Head Coach Dash Connell’s leadership at Tyler Junior College (2009-11). He helped the team achieve a share of the NJCAA National title in 2010 and an NJCAA runner-up finish in 2009. He then headed to Midwestern State, where he was named the Lone Star Newcomer of the Year in 2012 and was an All-Lone Star Conference selection in singles and doubles in 2012 and an All-Lone Star Conference doubles recipient in 2013 along with an honorable mention to the All-Lone Star Conference in singles.
Meeks had coached a variety of players that achieved national rankings and postseason honors. Some include 2019 Conference USA (CUSA) Player of the Year and NCAA singles qualifier Michaela Haet, the ITA top 30 and NCAA doubles qualifier pair of Maria Budin and Diae El Jardi (2022) and a top 40 doubles pair of Priya Niezgoda & Anastasia Smirnova (2020).
Before joining Rice, Meeks had a two-year stint as an assistant coach at New Mexico and served as the graduate assistant for both men’s and women’s programs at Cameron of Oklahoma. While at Cameron, Meeks was honored as the NCAA Division II South Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year and helped lead the Aggies to regional qualifiers on the women’s side and an elite eight finish with the men’s program.
